India VS Windies || First Test, Day 2 Rajkot || Virat Kohli || Ravindra Jadeja
Day 1 of the first test between India and Windies had a lot to discuss. We saw Prithvi Shaw, the teenager, entering the international arena in an amazing style by scoring a brilliant maiden century. The amount of temperament and commitment shown by the individual was quite commendable. People all across the world, as well as the cricket fraternity, were quite impressed with his knock. He is the 15th Indian to reach this feat and 2nd youngest Indian after Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar.
Both Virat Kohli and Rishabh Pant started the play right where they ended the previous day. Seeing Rishabh Pant play, one can say that another exploiting batsman in the making. Some of the shots played by him were quite magnificent. While Rishabh was attacking the Windies Bowlers, Virat showed why he is the best batsman across all formats in the international arena. Virat Kohli marched to his 24th Test century with a four and became the fastest to reach the feat. One must say, Virat playing the game like he is the king in the field is something that every other individual would love to watch. He acknowledged the crowd as usual with a wide smile on his face.
Unfortunately, Rishabh Pant got out after scoring a brilliant 92 just out of 84 deliveries. In came Ravindra Jadeja after Rishabh Pant's dismissal. After scoring a well made 139, Virat Kohli lost his wicket to Devendra Bishoo. Ashwin couldn't stand for a long period and got out after scoring a mere 7 runs off 15 deliveries. As usual, it was all Jadeja alone with the tail-enders. He slowly got to his half-century. He slowly formed a partnership with the tailenders. After completing his half-century he took the decision to take the aerial root and score as many runs as he can. In no time with a few brutal strikes as well as some of the classic drives that we love to watch, Ravindra Jadeja reached his maiden century after facing 132 deliveries. Once he got to his century, Indian team decided to declare the score at 649/9.
The start of the Windies innings was not as expected. They lost their first wicket when the team's score was just 3 runs. Kraigg Brathwaite was the first person to get out and soon Kieran Powell too followed back to the pavilion after making a mere1 run. Windies players were losing their wickets at regular interval and in no time lost their first 5 batsmen even before the team score reached 50. At the end of the second day, Windies made a total of 96 runs for the loss of 6 wickets. Roston Chase and K Paul were the ones on the crease hoping that they could continue making runs and increasing the team score as much as possible. All the Indian Bowlers bowled well to make sure that there was no big partnership in the Windies innings.
Pick of the day was indeed Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja who reached their respective centuries in the international test arena. Virat getting his 24th Test Century while Ravindra Jadeja scoring his maiden century. It will be in fact a memorable day for Ravindra Jadeja that he will remember for a long long time.
