10 Most active Volcanoes in the World
We all know that millions of years ago, our planet earth was
nothing but a giant fireball. It took several years for it to become habitable for living beings today. Now the earth is covered mostly with water and a portion of it with landmass.
In some parts of the world, the volcanoes are still active.
Volcanoes are the giant mountains that can produce molten lava.
This lava along with its gas is quite dangerous for living organisms. It can destroy the whole world in a matter of a few hours. The world
has already faced the wrath twice with the recent one being the eradication of
the dinosaurs.
One can state it as the southmost active volcano in the world. Mount
Erebus is located in Antarctica and has the second-highest Volcano in the Country. It ranks in the sixth position when it comes to the height across Antarctica. As per the geologists, the Mt Erebus volcano is active from the past 1.3 million years. It is quite astonishing. It has an elevation of 12,448 feet which is
humongous. There are three more volcanoes near it and they are namely: Mount
Terra Nova, Mount Bird as well as Mount Terror. Mount Erebus is currently
in the eruptive zone which is highly dangerous. It is the place for one of the
largest lava lakes in the world. In the year 1979, Flight 901 Air New Zealand succumbed
to ashes in November. It is one of the most devastating accidents in flight
history.
Mt Cleveland
There needs to be a reason for this volcano to be included in the list. One needs to know that it has erupted at least 22 times in the past 200 years. It is quite astonishing as well as trepidation to believe it as a fact. The volcano is located in the Aleutian Arc, near Cleaveland. Most of the flights that travel over the pacific ocean pass in the vicinity of this volcano. The Ash fire or the volcanic eruptions can cause problems to the electronic instruments of the aircraft. The pilots take all the necessary precautions while traveling through that route.
Mt Pacaya
This mountain has an elevation of 2552 meters. It is one of the most complex volcanoes and it is believed to be at least 23000 years old. It has been erupting from the last 70 years. The Mount Pacaya is located 30 KM from the city of Guatemala. Today it is one of the prime tourist attractions. One of its major known instances is its eruption in the year 1961 when Spain invaded the city of Guatemala. In the year 2014, it became extremely active and its eruptions led to the formation of the ashes that caused problems in the City of Guatemala, Antigua, and Escuintila.
Mt Kilauea
Located in the South-east part of Hawaii, it is termed to be amongst the top active volcanoes across the world. The last time this volcano erupted was between 1983 and 2018. In the year 2018, it sent outbursts of molten mass up to 30,000 feet. The molten lava liquid that came out through the bursts, resulted in the destruction of the largest natural freshwater lake in Hawaii. Though it is not that active these days, there is a complete chance of it bursting anytime in the future. It surely is an active volcano that one needs to be wary off.
Mt Sakurajima
Mount Sakurajima is an active stratovolcano. It is located in Kagoshima Prefecture in Kyushu, Japan. It is quite active and constitutes three peaks namely, Kita-deke, Naka-Deke, and Minami-Deke. Even today, it is active and can have quite an effect when it bursts. It is 3665 feet above sea level and the peninsula is around 77 Square KM.
Mt Yasur
Located in Tanna Island, Vanuatu, it is 1184 ft above the sea level. It is near the Sulphur Bay, northeast towards the Mount Tukosmera. It is the cause for the movement of the Indo-Australian plate which is moving westwards slowly. The volcano has been active for several 100 years and yet, tourists have the option to visit it near preliminary precautions. The volcano was first discovered by James Cook and its peculiar crater attracted him during his first visit to the European country in the year 1774. The village of Sulphur Bay believes that it is their part of land even today neglecting its power and effect that it can cause across the village.
Mt Santa Maria
Well, well we have one more hot one on the list. It is one of the most violent volcanoes in the 20th century. The first burst came in the year 1902 which was known as the VEI-6 eruption. After this incident, it led to two more eruptions, in 1912 around Novarupta and one in 1991 near Mount Pinatubo. The VEI-6 is also amongst the top five when it comes to the massive volcanic eruptions that took place over 200 years. It is located along the western edge of Guatemala and is a part of the range of volcanoes of Sierre Madre. The city that is located near is Quetzaltenango. These days the volcano lets out small bursts of molten lava, but one must quite vary of its power and humongous destruction it can cause when active.
Mt Etna
A Sicilian stratovolcano located on the east coast of Italy has a reason for it to be included in this list. The volcano Etna lies above the African and the Eurasian plate. It has the largest peak in Europe after the Caucasus range of mountains. The Mt Etna is between the cities of Catania and Messina. It currently stands high at 10,912 Feet. It is constantly active and is one of the most active volcanoes in the world. There is every chance of it bursting huge molten lava and causing havoc across the Italian cities. The advantage of these volcanic soils is the fact that it is quite pure with minerals and suits vegetation. These soils are used for vineyards as well as Orchads which are spread across the lower parts of the mountain. The United Nations described it as the Decade Volcano and it is also included in the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
